There was consternation amongst the bird life around Chichester Cathedral this morning as a large raptor flew past the building. This time it wasn’t a Red kite or Common buzzard causing the fuss, but an Osprey, right over the middle of the City. The local gulls began the chase, followed swiftly by both Peregrines as the migrant bird passed. The falcons and gulls soon returned to their normal activities as the Osprey flew off in a northerly direction.
Great picture of Mum in the nest turret
Eggs
I am sorry to say that the planned link with the webcam is still not available, however we are able to see some of the short clips of action on the nest thanks to the generosity of the RSPB and Pete H in particular. The video clips will be available from the Video Gallery page. Here is a picture of the eggs left unattended for 10 minutes. This is not unusual and not a cause for concern.
First pictures of the eggs
Here is the first picture taken from the camera on the nest.More in the March gallery of this website.Hopefully the camera will be live on the web soon – will keep you updated.
Peregrines, buzzards and sparrowhawk
Dad has left Mum alone with the eggs now and she has 4 buzzards and a sparrow hawk circling the cathedral. The buzzards are quite high but the sparrow hawk is around the spire. Dad had better comeback soon!!
Live from the cathedral
We now have the capability to update while we watch. Mum is having a wash and brush up so we assume Dad is on the nest doing his stint of incubation.
Soon we can add pictures as well.
Webcam
We have been asked by a lot of people about the webcam. The news is that it will be on line very soon. The RSPB are hoping for Carnyx to get it online this weekend. As soon as we know any more it will be posted on the blog and the homepage of chichester peregrines.Thank you all for your patience.
A Full House
At last the 4th egg has been seen, making it a full clutch. Both parents are taking part in the incubation process, but Dad is in charge (mostly) of the food situation.
Well done Pete
At last a link on the RSPB website. Let’s hope for a 4th egg in the morning.
And then there were 3
Eggs that is. We are expecting the 4th tomorrow!!
