All four juveniles fledged

Female no. 56 fledged this morning which means they have all now fledged. Here come some wonderful moments as they all fly together abround the spire.
Keep an eye on the June gallery for more pictures.
Thanks to Luke for getting up at the crack of dawn to record 56 fledging and keeping us informed. Well done!

Post Script to ‘Something’s Up’

The reason for all the panic noises from the adults this morning was because one juvenile fell off the castellations onto the green roof.  We are pleased to tell you that he recovered and is flying around this time.

Here is a picture of one frightened juvenile still in the nest wondering what was going on.

And here is a picture taken in the dark this evening of two juveniles cuddling up in the nest!!

As far as we know female 56 still hasn’t fledged.

Something’s up!

Off camera we can hear an adult making the panic noises that they make when they are threatened.  We do not know why but will let you know if we find out.

PS all the juveniles seem to be fine.

RSPB closed today

The RSPB tent and members of staff will not be at the cathedral today because of the high winds.  They hope to be opening again tomorrow if the wind abates.

We will be at the cathedral later on today with the latest news of the fledging – this of course depends on the juveniles and if they are attempting flight in this high wind.  Adult peregrines love the wind and spend many hours playing in it but today might be a little too much for our ‘babies’.

We will keep you posted on events and the return of the RSPB.

Watch the galleries for the antics of the juveniles!

53 and 55 take to the air

Today 53 and 55 took their first flights and joined their brother 54 in the big wide world.  So now we have 2 boys in the air and one girl.  Another juvenile was flying today but unfortunately no one was able to see the ring, so you never know it might have been the other girl (56) or perhaps it was 54 (boy) practising again.

Here are photographs of 53 and 55.  More to follow in June gallery.

Wow there’s a big world out here!

Our first juvenile came out of the nest turret this morning. Number 54 made an appearance and I am sure the others will follow shortly.

With grateful thanks to Luke Dray who decided fledging at Chichester was more important than a trip to Skomer.  Well done Luke!

Flat out!

It might not look like it now but one or more of these ‘guys’ has been experimenting with jumping onto the parapet – so fledging soon?

Sisters!!!

It is now becoming very clear that we have girls and boys the two on the left are so much bigger than the one on the right. Females are always bigger so it really looks like Graham’s second thoughts were right. It really looks like two boys and two girls.

All the plumage is growing well now.

Yesterday there were sparrow hawks and buzzards and a kite flying overhead.  Amazing viewing at Chichester Cathedral!
