The Girls

Some of you may have noticed that the camera was not working for a while this evening, this was because it was turned off while our chicks were ringed. This year we have 3 females ring numbers 57, 58 and 59.
There will be pictures on the blog soon and a new gallery of the ringing evening too.
Well done to our new male who now has to look after all his girls!!
Tomorrow is when we find out the sex of the chicks. As soon as we know we will let you guys know but for now we would love to hear what you think (comment below)! Here is a hint – The females are a third bigger, also keep an eye on the webcam as they are being fed more often now and you might get a clearer picture of the three chicks.

Have you noticed how big our babies are now!!
This morning Dad came in and started feeding the youngsters and then Mum arrived with lots of noise and took over. She obviously didn’t think he was doing it right!!

Sorry we are having problems with the webcam and looking into it now.
Here you can see the reason why the picture is not all that good. We have our own lodger – a spider – and it has woven its web over the camera. The sunshine shows it quite clearly in this pic!!
Web space!!
A lot of you have been asking about the fourth egg. There is now no chance it will hatch so we have three this year. Often the eggs gets pushed to one side and is cracked, damaged and the shell gets eaten, I am not sure why this has not happened but this egg will not hatch now. Under all the circumstances of the year they have done very well to have the three safe and sound. Lets look forward to them all fledging.
Here are our peregrine family this morning bathed in sunshine.

Even though their nest is down in one of the turrets the wind is whipping around whoever is sitting on the chicks to keep them warm.
Mum and Dad are obviously still hoping the 4th egg will hatch. It is now 37 days since the last egg was laid and their normal incubation period is 28 – 33 so it looks like she is wishful thinking. Not bad though for an old girl!
